The OPSWDPS is a single-storey, steel-frame, post-disaster facility that has become a model for future detachments in the Ottawa region in terms of planning efficiencies, sustainable design features, public address, and access.

The facility includes a sally port and vehicle service and wash bays complete with carbon monoxide exhaust and trench drains with oil interceptors.

The reception desk was designed to be rugged, comfortable, ergonomic, secure and “user friendly” through the effective use of glass and finish materials.

A central circulation “spine” connects all staff functions. A large open “bullpen” area provides office space for up to 100 patrol and district officers, where special acoustic design and a large curtain wall window provide a comfortable and collaborative workstation arrangement that is highly flexible.

Other features include a large, publicly-accessible conference room, an interview and observation room complex, a large 30 person parade (briefing) room, multipurpose oversized equipment lockup and distribution room, a separate command suite conveniently located adjacent to both staff and public zones, flexibility designed male and female “heads” (shower and locker rooms) and a large, naturally lit fitness room.

Project achieved LEED Silver.
