The former village fairgrounds of Cookstown, the rapidly growing, historic centre of a rich agricultural region west of Lake Simcoe, were purchased with the goal of creating a new community centre and library. It is designed as a series of functions sheltered under a single roof form. A continuous roof monitor floods the interior with controlled daylight.
The program includes a 2,000 sq.ft community meeting and recreation space. Both the library and the community rooms open to a common lobby using folding partitions. This allows for multiple uses at different hours of operations.
The library is designed around a pro-active customer service model. The open concept library is flexible and fully accessible with wide aisles, clear sight lines, community information areas, and comfortable places to sit.
The library achieved LEED Silver.
