Our approach for this important project was to design a clear, straightforward, functional plan that supports and facilitates policework. Through extensive consultation with all departments and an integrated design process from project outset, the headquarters has complete and effective security while also appearing open and inviting, to inspire the trust and confidence of the community.
The functional requirements dictated a large floor plate on two main levels. The headquarters include workplaces for 240 people on 3 levels in a combination of private offices, open office, and special functional areas. All workstations have access to natural light and views.
The design is flexible to allow future organizational change to be easily managed with minimal disruption to ongoing operations. The organization of spaces is based on a hierarchy of security requirements: public access; secure staff areas; prisoner holding and handling area; secure data and IT centre; forensic laboratories; emergency operations centre; communications centre.
Project achieved LEED Gold.
