This project is the adaptive reuse of the historically-designated former Queen Street United Church.

The main level of the church was converted to the Sanctuary Co-working Space in 2018.

The former basement was converted to the 10-room Smith Hotel in 2019. All of the rooms are two-storey units, made possible by removing six feet of rock below the original basement floor level. This was completed while the co-working space was fully occupied in the space above. The result is a unique set of hotel rooms which are unlike any other hotels in the city.

The project is an excellent example of the innovative adaptive reuse of an important heritage church for contemporary uses. The project maintains all key heritage features of the original building.

The project creates a small, publicly-accessible green space adjacent to the corner of Queen and Clergy Street. This green space is also used to host events for the building users and the neighbours.
